So what are the plans that have been set out for the UK and Ireland? Let’s take a look.

United Kingdom

The plan for the whole of the UK is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Investment will be made in a number of different areas to help support businesses and consumers with the changes including within the car industry, fuel, technology and nature.

With the plans now set in place, action will start to happen over the next number of years to eventually meet that net zero aim by 2050.

As the aim is now set and the work begins for the nation to achieve the target, ventilation is going to play an important role. New homes that are being built will need to have more carbon-neutral systems in place to help work towards this target.

The UK Government has already announced that gas boilers will be banned in all new homes built after 2025 and all new builds will require a low-carbon system, such as electric heat pumps. Grants of up to £5,000 will be made available to over 90,000 households so that low-carbon heating systems can be installed over the next three years.

As part of the strategy, the UK Government has set a target of having 600,000 heat pump installations a year by 2028 which will be aided by a £60 million Heat Pump Ready Programme that will provide funding for pioneering heat pump technologies.

Ireland

Ireland’s plan is similar to what the UK has set out and it also aims to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

As with the UK, heat pumps are going to play a big role in the zero-emission heating of buildings across the country. By 2030, the Irish Government are aiming to reach a target of 50,000-55,000 commercial buildings with zero-emission heating (heat pumps).

Within the same timeframe, by 2030, the Irish Government also want to install 400,000 heat pumps in existing homes and between 250,000-280,000 in new homes across the country.

Ireland can see the benefits that heat pumps can bring to helping to achieve their targets, seeing it as the future of heating for both domestic and commercial buildings across the country.

How can we help?

With all of the changes coming into effect, there is going to be an increased need for heat pumps within properties all across the UK.

Here at BPC, we have partnered with Panasonic and currently stock their Aquarea range of air to water heat pumps. This range is perfect for those looking for an eco-friendly, affordable way to heat their home as an alternative to the traditional methods of oil and gas.

The Panasonic heat pumps provide hot water, heating and cooling to the home. The system is split into two parts of a compact outdoor unit of a fan and compressor and a compact all in one indoor unit that features the heat exchanger and maintenance-free stainless-steel cylinder and optional heat recovery ventilation unit.

With only requiring a single-phase supply and using the latest R32 refrigerant it has excellent performance down to extremely low temperatures of up to -20C. These units also come with a market-leading seven-year parts and labour warranty when installed and serviced by an approved Panasonic engineer.
